Early Childhood Mental Health is defined as the healthy social, emotional, and behavioral development of a child from birth to five years old. During this time, infants develop the capacity to regulate emotions, form secure attachments, and explore the learning environment. Young children’s relationships with their primary caregivers have a major impact on their cognitive, linguistic, emotional, social and moral development. These relationships are most growth-promoting when they are warm, nurturing, individualized, responsive, and characterized by a high level of “goodness of fit.”
