The Judy Center, located at Robert Moton Elementary School in Westminster, promotes school readiness, for children birth through kindergarten, by fostering skills that help children become successful learners. Robert Moton Elementary has one of 24 Maryland State Department of Education grant funded centers in the state of Maryland and the only center in Carroll County. This program works with any family whose child attends Robert Moton Elementary or lives within the school district. The Judy Center partners with community based agencies, teachers, child-care providers and families to support skills children need to be successful in school. Carroll County Public School contracts with CCYSB to provide the Judy Center Service Coordinator Position, which is a full time position housed at Robert Moton Elementary. This position provides in-classroom and in-home support to children, teachers and parents, as well as case management including community resource referrals. Also through its partnership with CCYSB, families involved with the Judy Center can receive mental health services. The Judy Center offers activities, enhancing each of the seven domains of learning, for families to promote school readiness. Activities include “Come Learn with Me,” a playgroup for parents and young children, summer programming including camp and Parent-Child Activities and “Family Fun Nights” throughout the year.
