Demystifying Youth Suicide: A Parent’s Guide

Parents will learn how to recognize signs of depression and other mental health problems, initiate a conversation about suicide with their child, and steps to getting help.

Teaming Up: How to Talk to your Teenager About Substance Abuse

CCYSB offers an informative group workshop for parents of adolescents focused on adolescent substance use and abuse. The workshop includes open discussion, and focuses on information about various substances used by adolescents in our community.  The following topics are covered: drug use in Carroll County; warning signs of substance use; how to talk to your adolescent; and treatment and intervention options.

NoBody Is Perfect

Created through a partnership between CCPS and The Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County, this workshop addresses body image, mental health, and nutrition amongst high school youth. This workshop explores the influences of family dynamics (relationships, communication), social media, and nutrition on the development of body image and how parents can incorporate this information into conversations with their teens. The strategy of mindful eating and a review of local resources related to nutrition will also be covered.

Early Childhood Mental Health: What is This Behavior Telling Me and How Do I Address It?

Understand what may be behind a child’s behavior. Learn major concerns in early childhood mental health: anxiety behavior related concerns, trauma, attention related concerns and how to address these concerns. See how to provide strategies, resources, and guidance and the process of implementing them. Set yourself up so that what is being implemented has the best chance of being effective.

In The Eye of the Storm: A Class for Parents of Teens

Parenting teens can be a great joy and a challenge. This workshop is designed to help parents gain a new perspective and develop new skills in relating to “normal” and provocative adolescent behavior. Gaining control begins with parent choices. Choices that allow parents to be a calming presence for themselves and their child in the midst of volatile feelings – much like being in the “eye of a storm!”.

Death is Not a Dirty Word – A Conversation About Grief & Loss

The topic of death is often avoided and treated as taboo despite it being a universal concept – everyone experiences grief and loss at some point.
